If it wasn't for these funny books, I might not have started writing picture books at all...
But first, a bit of personal news, I am now agented! Since I'm starting a new chapter in my writing life filled with so much bookish news, I am launching my author newsletter! I will still be running BOOK + GIFT as usual. But this bonus material will be more personal, more related to my writing journey, and hopefully worth the once a month or less read! I'd love if all of you dear BOOK + GIFT readers would subscribe to my newsletter. Thank you! You are truly a gift!!!
Back to The LOLs. The Ladies of Laughter. This is a bit of a thank you to those funny women of picture books who indirectly helped me and sent me on the path of writing. I remember reading these books for the first time with my little ones and had to stop in my tracks to laugh. Or to think: "Excuse me? You just did what there?" By writing as boldly as they did, it gave me sort of permission to start writing down all of the silly stuff in my head while awake at night feeding my newborn. Later I started branching into writing other genres as well like lyrical, nonfiction, informational fiction, etc. But it all started with humor and these incredible women and these unforgettable books. Just think. There could be someone reading your book who is inspired to write because of YOU! Be bold. Be unapologetic. Use your imagination to the fullest. Don't try to be anyone but you. Go wow them...
Excuse me. The cuteness of a pea as a character? A delightful twist? I'm in.
